S1 - Innovative solutions for adaptation of European hydropower infrastructures in view of climate and market changes

This workshop topic is directly linked with research being carried out presently mainly in Europe pertaining to the sustainable perenity of the hydroelectricity production in these changing times. Several European countries have started and will be undergoing major turnarounds of their energy sector and hydroelectric facilities are a stepping stone of this change. For instance, Switzerland is investing considerably in its own 2050 Energy Strategy which focus on nuclear power phase out and replacement by Rewable Energy Sources (RES) of which hydro is the key. Maintaining and even increasing hydro production in a densely exploited territory under increasing legal-environmental constraints, climatic changes, market elasticity & de-regulation is a major generational challenge requesting for innovative technical solutions. This broad topic should challenge colleagues from many European countries to submit papers.
